Storm really is magnificent. I was really hoping to show him but you cannot show dairy goats if they have horns and boy does he have them. In these pictures you cannot tell but trust me they are very wide at the base and big.
Hopefully he will throw me some good quality show goats. Im already deciding who gets to spend the month with him when hes ready.

Well Story finally kidded. I was really beginning to worry. JC was going out to water goats and a few minutes later came in and said "COme out and see the new BONEdiggities. Whoa new baby goats were just born. They were still damp when I found them. MOM did a great job all by herself. The doeling will move to PrairieWood Ranch when she is weaned and Story will be moving to a new home as well. What a nice suprise today was

Yesterday was the first day of spring and with that came new baby goats. Bootsie had 2 flashy boys. One Black and White with blue eyes and one white and tan with gold eyes .

They are both leggy, long and very angular. This is Bootsies second kidding.

Soon Bootsie will be moving to PrairieWood Ranch. It will be sad to say goodbye to my good goat friend but she is going to a wonderful home. I know PrairieWood will love her as much as I do.

Lily is really a beauty. SHe has the most amazing soft curls. She looks a little washed out and gray here because she loves to roll in an old charcoal pit she found. When she's clean her fleece is as white as snow.

Bootsie gave birth to this precious little boy first. He looks just like his daddy except for the frosted ears and stripe across his nose. He was the tiniest of the three. This is the first of the Flying Goat's born here at the ranch. Thanks to Prairiewood Buckshot who sired these cuties. Buckshot was owned by Deanna Baca Of Cornerstone Farm . Each baby was unique in color. Bootsie gave birth to this little buckskin boy, then a tri-color girl and last but not least a black and white boy. They are so affectionate and sweet. Click on the picture for a closeup of mamma and baby. They are all doing beautifully considering she was 6 days early.

J.C. speaks many languages. Timber our dog responds to his made up, make-believe , nonsense words. While I'm not quite sure what Whoozaama or Rrrrrrrooot means, Timber knows exactly what is expected when the words are uttered. When JC wants to interact with MoJo our bird it is done through his knowledge of music. While playing the bass J.C. can get Mojo to dance and squeak to the beat. I haven't quite figured out how he has managed to chat it up with my favorite caprines as of yet but I think he may secretly carry peanuts in his pockets. Either way the goats love him just as much as all the other creatures that live here at the FLYING GOAT RANCH. Even us human girlies cant help but love this man who speaks the language of LOVE.

I snuck out to the barn to check up on the boys. Little Huck was snoozled up in the grain bin on the milking stand and Ripcord was nestled in this exact spot on the stand. I never knew how much I would enjoy having stinky bucks but they are the biggest Loves.
Im glad the Flying Goat Ranch took the leap and added these 2 boys to our herd. They have been a total joy to have . Thanks Prairiewood Ranch WE absolutely love these guys.

Huck is so tiny right now that he has become our temporary house guest. He loves his bottles and the house cats and our faithful hound Timber. During the day you can find Huck prancing around doing his goaty dance, he really loves play time. After he's all tuckered out he snuggles up to the heater. Huckleberry sleeps in a little box by our bed all through the night. Hes a good lil buck. Tye also loves Huck's sleeping box. Once Huck moves to his outdoor quarters Tye wants the box donated to him.

Smiling Irish Rose

The past weeks have been tough. The loss of Fawna, a sick puppy, and a housefull of humans trying to get over a really bad cold. Despite all the bad mojo that has surrounded our home Rose has reminded me how good it feels to smile. Just looking at her big giant grin can melt away the sad events from the past week. So heres to my Irish Rose for reminding me about the healing powers of a smile. Thanks Rosie.

In Memory of Fawna

This morning when I got up to feed the goats I noticed my Fawna was not at the fence to greet me. I called out and still no Fawna. I knew something was wrong when she didnt come. She would always greet me at the gate each morning. I ran to the barn and there she was curled up in a ball unable to stand or hold her head up and she was crying. I wrapped her in my arms and left for the vet. Xrays and blood samples were taken. The Xray showed that her internal organs were up in her chest cavity and her lungs had collapsed. It looked like a diaphramatic hernia. By this time poor Fawna was on life support and Doc said he felt she should be euthanized. It was the hardest thing Ive ever had to do. Yesterday she was playing and eating with the rest of the herd. Suddenly she lay in my arms dying and I had no answwers. I held her and cried while she gently went to sleep.

The doc did a autopsy and is sending samples for testing. It so weird because she did not show any signs of being ill and was fine last night before I went to bed.

Im soo heart broken over her loss. She was my beauty goat and I had high hopes that she would have done extremely well in the show ring. I will always rememeber my little doeling Fawna. She was sweet, shy, playfull and full of love . I know she loved being here at the ranch just as much as we loved having her here .

We get up early feed the animals, milk our goat and bottle feed some of the babies. Today I added a new goat to the herd. I really have wanted a goat that produces alot of milk. Over the past weeks I have searched and searched but today I finally found the girl that I think makes our little herd more complete. She is a yearling and I got to see what kind of babies she produes. The most adorable baby nubians. The wonderful lady I bought her from said I could get her milk production back up. She had been trying to dry her out but I have babies that could use the milk right now. Im so happy to have Irish Rose here at our ranch. Shes a sweet as sugar pudding and she just LOVES J.C.

When I first brought Fawna home she was so frightened. Weeks went by and still she shied away from people. Everyday I would go out to the corral and play with the goats as well as feed the babies their bottles.
Anyhow, we have this old dog house the goats love hopping up on for their daily back scratching. This has beenone of the highlights of our goats day. We named the old house the Scratchin Shack. I knew Fawna had finally started to warm when she jumped up on the shack for a little scratchin. Im so glad she found her place today. She played and romped and found some comfort on the SCratchin Shack.

Our new baby goat. She looks just like a baby deer so J.C. has named her

Fawna. Its perfect. I worried that she would have a hard time hanging with the bigger goats, but despite the harrasment they occasionally dish out she much prefers to share the same pen. The first night I locked her up in her own area so they couldnt harm her. WHen I woke the next morning she had managed to squeeze through the tiniest little hole to be with them. Shes a tough little cookie of a doe.

Goats love to fly. They fight over the highest place in the corral. Here we find Sunny on top of a goat house. Once in position a deep concentration comes into play and then in a blink of the eye they are airborne. I have tried on numerous occasions to catch this amazing feat with my camera. This is a difficult task but one day I hope to have a whole blog filled with my amazing flying goat photos.

The Goats love taking a "walk about " they run and jump and dart all over the place. Sunny gets so excited I have to take him back to the corral often for water because he runs himself silly. J.C. got new tires a month ago. I asked that he bring a few of the old ones home. One of those old tires was converted into a tree swing and the other I gave to the goats. I didnt really think the goats would become so fond of J.C.'s bald tires but over the past month it has been a favorite napping place as well as a fun bouncing on toy for the herd. Its been so rainy here in New Mexico. Major flooding
occuring on a daily basis. Its been hard to get out and
take great photos of the "Flying Goat" herd. With the
rains has come a jungle of weeds. I always heard that
goats would eat anything but I can tell you my herd
are discrimating eaters, preferring alfalfa and grain
to the ever abundant weeds that grow in their corral.

My New Goat

Bootsies's our brand new goat. She is a month older than
our other goats and a lot more friendly. SHe wants to be with
me all the time. She follows me around the corral and even
plays chasing games with me. Bootsie comes from Oregon so she has a
different bloodline than our other goats. Im so happy to

Today was the first day to train for show goating. The herd hated it. The training consisted of tying them to a leash for a half hour. It was hard to see them struggle against the collar. They soon learned it was easier to relax then fight. At the end of the 1/2 hour session they were gently released and given some fresh greens. Tommorow we will try again and see how they fair, this time with more human touch. In the long run this will make them friendlier, but I hate that they are nervous by the whole experience. I wish I knew how to make it easier for them.

Today Chloe and I went to our first Goat Show at the Fairgrounds. It was great to see all the well behaved goats on their leashes, prancing around the ring for all to admire. I cannot wait to see our Bella, Sunny and Otis behave so proud. Unfortuneately we didnt get any pics from the event but we did get an brand new addition to our herd. We pick her up on Monday so stop by for pics in the coming days.

The baby goats seem to be adjusting rather well. We capture the little fellows and give them a good dose of petting. Otis is taking to this daily ritual rather well, but Bella and Sunny who are brother and sister have not taken to our human affection. Otis is a bit older and that may account for his curiosity. The siblings were just recently weaned and Im hoping in the next few days will come around. The "Flying Goat Ranch" is off to a great start.
